![]() ![]() Trinkets’ effects can range from: allowing a specific character to breathe underwater indefinitely, increase damage, allow the wizard to conjure more planks or boxes and so forth. Other trinkets may give boosts if it is equipped with a specific character. However if you manage to reach them, the chests contain a trinket which give a boost to the character who has it equipped. As you progress through the adventure, there are hidden chests in often difficult and hard-to-reach places. Trine actually has an inventory system, about 9 slots per character thus leaving you a total of 27 slots. So lesson learned? Do not touch strange magical artifacts if you do not know what they are or do. The trio is forever joined when they touch upon the magical Trine artifact which has bound their souls into one. For those who did not read my review for Trine 2 or unfamiliar with the Trine trilogy, the three characters consists of: Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight and Zoya the Thief. Dat treasure!!Īnyways, Trine has three playable characters. I really should try play games in order next time. In 2014, Trine was revived as it was remade on the newer Trine 2 engine. At least I now know how the heroes knew each other during Trine 2 and the significance about the titular magical artifact. Trine originally was released back in 2009 as a solid action/puzzle game where emphasis was on the level design. The first one I played in this series was Trine 2, now I just finished Trine 1 the remake and then moving onto the early access version of Trine 3. I just realized I have not played in the Trine trilogy in the correct order at all. Bother are still great though.Trine: Enchanted Edition is actually a remake of Trine, using Trine 2’s game engine and supports multiplayer which was not available on the original version. I like the hud options in Trine 2 more and it's a little easier to pick up and play. Personally, I like the levels, art, gameplay, combat, characters, voice over work, and music in Trine more than Trine 2. Soundtrack doesn't come with GOG version. Trine 2: Good music, but not as good as the music from Trine. Trine 1: has awesome music and you get the soundtrack when you buy it on GOG (that's worth the price alone in my opinion) So, if you don't buy it you'll miss out on all of those levels. Trine obviously contains a lot of levels that aren't in Trine 2. Trine 2: Finding hard to reach secrets just unlocks concept art and poems. Trine 1: Finding hard to reach secrets rewards you with items that effect gameplay. ![]() I wish the wizard could shoot fireballs, but he can't in either game. However, he often doesn't have time before he's killed. The wizard can use magic to trap and pick up enemies now. Trine 2: Combat is much faster and the knight is most useful here. Trine 1: Combat is slower and each of the characters can fight (although the wizard can only draw planks and boxes to drop on enemies). So, puzzles feel more rigid in how they can be solved. Trine 2: You must switch characters to progress. It's even possible to beat a whole level with only one character (great challenge). Trine 1: Most puzzles can be solved using any of the characters. Trine 2: I recall controls being streamlined and easier to set up. Trine 1: setting up controls for the keyboard and mouse can sometimes be buggy. Trine 2: Some new character abilities were added (example: the knight can use his shield like a hang glider)īoth games play great with an Xbox controller (I recommend using a controller). Trine 1: Wizard has to pick up mana to perform magic. Trine 2: Knight can no longer pick up and throw objects ![]() Trine 1: Knight can pick up and throw objects Trine 2: You can turn the hud off in the options Trine 1: No option to disable the hud (you can disable it using a convoluted method I've posted here: ![]() Trine 2: more saturated color, glowing effects, brighter color, edges are softer Trine 1: sharp clean graphics, subtle fantasy lighting. What would I be missing if I didn't pick up Trine 1? Differences between Trine 1 and Trine 2: Rearick: Just got Trine 2 in the recent sale, and it's absolutely gorgeous. ![]()
